Rain, Thunderstorms, Hail, Snow, Wind...You Name It, This Weekend Has It!

What a wild weekend we have in store...

Rain will push into the area this evening. The rain could become really heavy overnight, with thunderstorms also in the mix. Hail may be an issue in thunderstorms. Rain totals could range from two to four inches. Thus, flooding could be a BIG problem.

Tomorrow, a break in the action in the morning, with cloudy skies and cool temperatures dominating until the rain returns. Meanwhile, temperatures will plummet, as the cold levels of the atmosphere crash. Once rain redevelops, thunderstorms are again a possibility, again with hail possible. Rain will begin to mix with and change to snow in the highest elevations around 4:00 or 4:30 PM. Snow levels will continue to drop. When will snow reach the Tri-Cities? Well, it looks like overnight Sunday into Monday, snow could drop into the Tri-Cities. Accumulation, if any, will be light.

Snow in the mountains may be heavy at times, possibly accompanied by thunder. Snow, along with gusty winds, could create blizzard-like conditions occasionally.

Upslope snow kicks in tomorrow evening, lasting through Monday morning for most above 2500 feet. Any remaining snow in the Tri-Cities should change to rain before ending. Total accumulation could be upward of a foot above 4000 feet. The Tri-Cities could see up to an inch, and Asheville could see 1"-3". In-between, anywhere from 3"-6" are possible.

Gusty winds will be problematic Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Tropical Storm-force gusts are possible. The Tri-Cities should generally see winds in the 25-35 MPH range, with gusts into the 50 MPH range; Asheville 30-40 MPH, with gusts into the 55 MPH range; The mountainous areas could see sustained winds of 35-45 MPH, gusting over 65 MPH at times. Combined with the heavy, wet snow falling, power outages could be a problem.
