Remnants of Humberto Could Soak Some
The double-front setup looked good at the beginning of the week. Models definitely did not catch this, however.
The remnants of Hurricane Humberto, which made landfall in Texas last night, will track through Alabama and Georgia, and eventually end up in North Carolina, providing beneficial rains across areas east of and into the mountains.
Currently, everything is organizing nicely across Alabama and Georgia. A large area of tropical moisture is moving northeast. This will be the rainmaker for areas east of the Appalachian spine, also combining with the following. For areas west, a surge of tropical moisture combined with southwesterly flow from a front moving across the Mid-West will produce "upslope rain," which is somewhat similar to upslope snow in the wintertime. Expect greater coverage with these showers than what flow snow produces.
Total rainfall could reach an inch area-wide...with higher totals more likely across Western North Carolina. Likewise, expect a bit lesser amounts in Southwest Virginia.
The aforementioned front will move through late Friday/Early Saturday, leaving just a few showers to contend with Saturday morning. Cooler air will usher in behind the front. Highs over the weekend will struggle to reach the upper 70's, if that high! Definitely a welcome change from 90-degree heat. Unfortunately, this won't stick around too long. Highs will make a bee-line for the 80's Tuesday, and will probably remain that high the rest of the week.
