Some Cloudiness, Especially Across the TRI

If you look outside, chances are it's cloudy.

A look at the radar/satellite composite reveals an area of rain and thunderstorms over West and Middle Tennessee. These are associated with the cold front. (yes, the same one I've talked about for a week) However, I doubt the area of rain is causing the cloudiness. I think they're coming from the cold front itself, though no rain is associated with them. Notice in the map below how the front curves back up into Tennessee. The clouds fit the curvature of the front to a tee. They should be out of here later. However, I've included "variable cloudiness" in the forecast for good measure.

Meanwhile, extremely isolated showers and thunderstorms have developed over southwestern North Carolina. I don't really expect any development north into the viewing area...though I won't completely rule it out. Thus, I included a 20% chance of showers across Western NC.

I didn't have time to update the forecast last night. I noticed that my gutters needed to be cleaned, so I decided to do that. While I was blasting all the muck out of there (with a garden hose), I noticed a pool of water near one of the gutters. It is (was) set up with a piece of flexible pipe over the gutter, which then drains off a hill into the yard. This is located near where water has been inexplicably entering into my basement. (for those of you that read any of my posts at Eastern US WX, you'll know I have basement flooding issues) I couldn't find the problem, so I decided to just dig the whole thing up. I dug it up neatly...piece by piece of 3-4" thick sod & dirt...and it revealed the most screwy setup I believe I've ever seen. Instead of one lone pipe, the idiots who built the house set it up with four sections of pipe...two different types, which require an adapter. The section of flexible pipe and the adapter was absolutely filled with mud, dirt, sediment, twigs, stems...anything that comes off your roof, and then some. I then found out that there were HOLES drilled in the pipe. I ripped the whole mess out of there, and placed in one long piece of flexible pipe. (when I say flexible pipe, I mean the ribbed drainage pipe that is about 3" in diameter) It now works like a charm. Hopefully, I will no longer cry "flood" when we get an inch of rain in an hour.
