Showers and Thunderstorms Developing...Watch out for Some

Yet another hot and humid southern summer day has led to scattered showers and thunderstorms developing across NE TN and SW VA. The thunderstorms are developing ahead of a cold front currently positioned just north of our area.

Morning sunshine has destabilized the atmosphere. At least as a partial result, some of the storms have intensified to severe levels. Another factor is a weakening cap. This will allow for development south of the initial convection.

Watch out for scattered strong to severe thunderstorms, with damaging hail, strong winds, vivid cloud-to-ground lightning, and heavy rainfall.
