Thunderstorms This Afternoon and into Tonight

A rather large band of showers and thunderstorms is moving toward the area. This is associated with a system that dumped over 9" of rain in 24 hours in parts of Texas. It appears that it will move into the area late this afternoon. Ahead of the front, additional thunderstorms should develop. This rain should last into the night.

There is one factor that could drop our rain totals dramatically. Convection in Alabama in Georgia is using up quite a bit of moisture...and, while the line is fairly well-formed now, this could break it down a bit. However, by the time the line moves into our area, daytime heating should diminish, and cause some of that convection to die down. Everything could come back together then. This all needs to be monitored, as nothing is for certain now.

If we receive rain and thunderstorms, some of those storms may be strong. A few may even reach severe levels. Be alert for strong winds and large hail, as well as plenty of vivid lightning and torrential rain.
