Very Warm Today; Severe Weather Possible Tomorrow?
A forecaster could not truthfully say he predicted these temperatures.
Today has been extremely warm thus far. Temperatures are well into the 80's in many locations. Some even managed the 90's today! As of 5:10 PM, Morganton, NC was at 93F; Just north of Asheville recorded a temperature of 90F. The Tri-Cities are hovering in the middle- to upper-80's. Most mountainous locales are in the upper-70's, but there are a few exceptions, both higher and lower.
It is also fairly muggy. Dew points are in the 50's and 60's! Along with April's sun angle, this is causing high heat indices.
Tomorrow will bring a bit cooler temperatures, but still well into the 70's, and maybe a few 80 degree readings. But the big issue will be thunderstorms, some of which may reach severe limits. The Storm Prediction Center is leaving the potential on the table. Severe storms are more likely to the west of us, but a few may make their way into Northeast TN. Knoxville has a better shot of seeing widespread severe weather, so if you have travel plans, please be cautious.
More on the severe weather will come either tonight or early tomorrow. Check back for updates.
