Weekend and Early Week Thunderstorms

The next 24-30 hours will bring warm temperatures and higher dew points. This, and weakening front approaching, will lead to scattered thunderstorms to "pop." Tomorrow afternoon looks promising for development. Severe thunderstorm development does not appear likely, but with higher dew points, a few scattered strong to severe storms are possible. As the front moves through Sunday, the chance of thunderstorms increases to a "certainty" level. Again, severe thunderstorms aren't likely, but a few could have a bit of *pop* to them.

Next week, a major cold front will plow through the region. Behind it, much cooler air will invade, dropping highs into the 40's and 50's. Ahead of it, warm, sticky conditions dominate. Due to this, severe weather is a concern. No details yet, as it's too far out to hammer out specifics.

'Tis the season for severe weather...last year, a major tornado outbreak occurred over AL, GA, IN, KY, MS, TN, and VA on April 6-8. Lee Co, VA saw tornadoes of F0 and F1 magnitudes touch down, along with much of the region receiving severe winds and hail as a line of storms rumbled through the area.
