The Setup Behind These Thunderstorms

Many are wondering what's behind these thunderstorms we've seen over the last 36 HRS.

A large yet fairly weak upper level low pressure is sitting over the Central Appalachians. This is continuously spinning, bringing moisture into the area. Instability helps out with development and intensification. Eventually, the storms form into a larger cluster, and eventually move east or northeast, out of the area.
