Strong and Severe Thunderstorms Entering the Area...Be Prepared for What's In-Store!

*A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 9 PM EDT for All of East TN, and Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Washington, and Wise counties in Southwest Virginia.


Intense thunderstorms are now pushing their way into Southwest Virginia. None currently have warnings out for them, but watch out for gusty wind, small hail, and cloud-to-ground lightning.

The picture to the west of much of the area is not so pretty. An intense squall line is working its way into the area. Numerous severe thunderstorm warnings are out for storms associated with this line. The storms are entering an unstable atmosphere...so they could remain severe for a while. Please be prepared for damaging, gusty winds, large hail, and continuous cloud-to-ground lightning.

There is good news...there doesn't appear to be any rotation involved with these storms...so tornadoes are almost an "outty."
