Scattered Thunderstorms Today...Some Strong to Severe
Scattered thunderstorms have again developed across the area. Moderate instability, along with a weak surface frontal boundary, has led to several particularly strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon. This activity should continue through the evening...with several more strong to severe thunderstorms possible.
For the most part, these storms are moving to the southeast at 5-10 MPH. However, there have been a few storms that have stalled out and dumped an inch or two of rain in a short amount of time. Another possibility is training thunderstorms. (Thunderstorms developing right behind one another, and moving over the same area again and again) Thus, flash flooding is a concern. There is a flash flood warning in effect for Bell County, KY.
The Storm Prediction Center issued a Mesoscale Discussion earlier today regarding severe thunderstorms in the area. A watch may be necessary, but there isn't one currently.
