A Few Extra Thoughts on Upcoming Clipper; Plus Some Long-Range Thoughts

This clipper will be our last shot at accumulating snow for the next week to two weeks. There will be a warming trend starting Monday, and we could be in the 60's by late next week. That will change come March. Another period of well-below normal cold will hit us by the first week of March. It should last at least two weeks. This year may be the year we get our overdue late winter/early spring snowstorm. I won't even rule out anything in April.

Despite what other sources are saying, it will NOT be 40F Saturday when the snow begins. I don't believe we'll even crack the upper 30's, with the exception of a few deep valley locales. As soon as the snow begins, the temperature will start falling. It should be below freezing soon after the snow starts. This is the best shot thus far for EVERYONE, including the valleys, to get accumulating snow. Johnson City may even get up to 3". Locations such as Boone and Flag Pond could see 6"+. I am not promising anything, nor is anything final. It's a tough call right now. Things should be more clear tonight, however. Snow showers should continue for most into Sunday afternoon, before ending for some. Upslope locations may see snow continuing into the night before it ends.

The next storm system we will see should be during the middle of next week. This system will need to be watched carefully. There is the chance of a severe weather outbreak to our south and west. Heavy rain and a thunderstorm or two are possible. Again, this is days away.
